today (the last friday of july) is national sys admin appreciation day. i extend a hearty thanks to all of the computer geeks who keep our computers up and running 24/7. you are invaluable.
my advice to recipients of said invaluable services: go ahead and show your admin some love - buy her a beer, or take him out to lunch, or just plain say, “thanks!”
but it’s also inappropriate friday, so here’s an idea of how you can have some fun with your admin next week:
stick a small post-it note with “gotcha”* written on it underneath the mouse of your favorite admin. casually and inconspicuously observe how long it takes him to figure it out.
*or “april fool!” if it’s april 1
laughter is the best medicine, as they say. there’s even real medical proof to back this up. laughter increases circulation, and thus delivers more oxygen and nutrients to all those little cells in your body. laughter boosts the immune system. it’s an aerobic workout for your diaphram. it reduces stress hormones. it helps control pain (remind me of that next time i crash on my bike). laughter builds comraderie.
i really want you all to live long, healthy lives, so until barni the bus is up and running (check back in july!) go ahead and laugh at passive aggressive notes. the site is, according to their tagline, a collection of “painfully polite and hilariously hostile writings from shared spaces the world over.”

you suck at photoshop. but fear not - the deeply disturbed donnie hoyle will do his best to school your hopelessly incompetent self. the bizarre, inappropriate-for-work tutorials very cleverly reveal real tips that will make you a better photoshop user. it will probably also make you laugh out loud. i recommend viewing them in order.
p.s. the videos are still funny even if you don’t know photoshop. they’re just more useful if you do, or have aspirations to.
